Born in Cuba, Roberto Poveda is a trovador, songwriter, and performer whose music bridges tradition and innovation. Drawing from Son, Bolero, Rumba, and Timba while blending Jazz, R&B, and Rap, he has a distinctive sound developed over a career spanning more than thirty years. His songs and collaborations have reached audiences across the Americas and beyond.

Meyken Barreto is a curator, art writer, and adjunct lecturer at City College of New York. She has held curatorial and management roles at institutions including Residency Unlimited, Artist Pension Trust, and Y Gallery, and has taught Art History in Havana and lectured internationally. In 2009, she received Cuba’s National Curatorship Award.
Her research and curatorial work focus on contemporary art, identity, gender, memory, coloniality, and power structures. She has curated and co-curated numerous exhibitions in New York, Philadelphia, Montreal, Washington DC, and beyond, while also contributing to art publications such as El Oficio and Artnexus.

Documentary Summary: For Venezuelans, migrating to the United States by land without a visa once seemed unimaginable. That changed when thousands began sharing their journeys through the dangerous Darién Gap — the dense jungle border between South and Central America — on social media. In this documentary, three Venezuelan women reunite in New York and reflect on their experiences, videos, and the harsh realities of crossing one of the most difficult parts of the journey toward the American dream.
Tatiana Rojas Ponce is a Venezuelan researcher, activist, and documentary filmmaker currently pursuing a PhD in Spanish and Portuguese, with a certificate in Culture and Media, at New York University. She has worked on several documentaries as an editor, producer, screenwriter, and post-production coordinator, and has twice won the Best Editing award at the Santiago Álvarez International Documentary Film Festival in Havana, Cuba. Darien is her directorial debut.

Roses, Rum and Coffee tells the story of Rosa Delima Dupairon Chavez, a mulata born in Santiago de Cuba, who speaks with caustic humor and lyrical bluntness about a life shaped by faith, family silences, lost loves and survival between poetry and politics in an unforgiving Cuba. It is a powerful tribute to resilient women, fractured families and hard truths that emerge once fear is left behind.
Lesly Farran is a Cuban writer, linguist, and educator born in Havana. His work spans international interpreting, language teaching , and writing on identity and migration.
